Declaration for an Original Invalid Pensioner 17 July 1891
State of North Carolina, County of Craven SS: ON THIS 17th day of July AD one thousand eight hundred and ninety 1 personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid Robert Danvers
aged 45 years, who being duly sworn to law, declares that he is the identicalRobert Danvers who was ENROLLED as a Private on the 22 day of May 1863 in Company B of the 35th Regiment of U.S.C.T. commanded by Col. James Beecher and was honorably DISCHARGED at Charleston, SC on the 1st day of June 1866, That his personal description is as follow: Age 18 years; height 5 feet 8 inches; complexion Dark; eyes Dark. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and in the line of duty at Polly Island in the State of South Carolina on or about September/October 1865 he contracted
Diarrhea & Piles by drinking bad water.
That he contracted Rheumatism in feet & legs and right hip was by cold & exposure to standing mud crud water on guard at Polly Island SC & he had Measles at New Bern NC June 1863. I was carried on after awhile to my company & regiment. I was in the Hospital at Portsmouth VA. I was in the hospital about three weeks with measles of which effected my eyes & caused blindness for a while. I suffer a loss of vision of both eyes. That he was treated in hospital as follow: He was treated in the hospital Portsmouth VA, Measles and in July 1864 treated at the hospital at Polly Island SC. That he has not been employed in the military or navel service otherwise than as stated above. He has not been in the military service than stated
above. That he has not been in the military or navel service of the United States since the 1st day of June 1866. That since leaving the service this applicant has resided in Columbia of Tyrrell County in the state of North Carolina, He is now in Pamlico County NC, and that is his occupation has been that of a farmer.
That prior to his entry into the service above-named he was a man of good, sound, physical health, being when enrolled a Pvt. of Company B, 35th Regiment that he is now more that two thirds disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor by reason of his injuries, above described, received in the service of the United States; and he therefore makes this
declaration for the purpose of being placed on the invalid pension roll of the United States. He hereby appoints with full power of substitution and revocation Fredrick Douglas of New Bern NC his true and lawful attorney to execute his claim that he has not received but has applied for a pension; that his residence is P.O. Box 590 (NO of his claim pending 971992) and that
his post office address is P.O. Box 590, New Bern NC.
