Robert Dunbar lies next to his daughter Maude who is buried in the family cemetary, Stonewall NC. He is also honored with a plaque on the USCT memorial in Washingtn DC. His duty as a infantry man started in New Bern NC. His duties were with Company B, 35th Regiment, United States Colored Troops (USCT), organized February 8, 1864, from the 1st North Carolina Colored Infantry.
